AWARD FOR THE FILM "LOCUS" AT THE FESTIVAL STOPTRIK!
Stoptrik IFF is an international stop motion animation festival, which was born in the squat alternative culture centre in Maribor in 2011. Since 2012, the festival formula was extended to include two-stage, professional stop motion animation workshops and the international short animated film competition. At the moment, StopTrik IFF is the only stop motion animated film festival in Europe. It is not only the space dedicated to the art of stop motion, where the achievements of artists from around the world are presented, but the festival is also a platform for sharing and promotion of this exceptional art form.
This year, in the international film competition, the film "Locus" by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi was awarded the Special Mention for the Best Stop-Motion from an ex-communist country.
The film contains many meaning of the eponymous word "locus." It is both a term defining two separate spaces, in which the child and the mother who travels to meet him are located, and the reference to genetic dependence between them. The protagonists, sculpted in ice, ask also about "locus of control," that is, who is responsible for the events in the film: the woman herself, or "the others," totally unaware of the fact. The film was produced by the studio WJ Team.
Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi graduated from psychology at the University of Warsaw and animation at Lodz Film School. In her films, she experiments with traditional animation techniques, creating tiny intimate worlds. In addition to directing animated films, she works in compositing and special effects.
