"THE RESONACE" AWARDED AT ANN ARBOR
The 54th edition of the festival Ann Arbor ended. One of the awards was given to Mateusz Sadowski for his film "The Resonance."
From 15 to 24 March, the 54th edition of Ann Arbor was held - the experimental film festival which exists uninterruptedly for the longest time in the world. In the competition, Polish animated films were shown: "Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape" by Jerzy Kucia, "Sto[ne]s" by Marcin Giżycki, the experimental "The Resonance" by Mateusz Sadowski, and "The Analysis of Emotions and Vexations" by Wojciech Bąkowski. Mateusz Sadowski was honoured with Chris Frayne Award for Best Animated Film for his film "The Resonance."
"The Resonance" was made using the stop motion animation technique, during which the artist divides the recorded material into individual frames, prints them and photographs them in order to reassemble them into the film. This procedure, allowing to examine the properties characteristic for various realities - photography and video, has a tricky character. On the one hand, it gives the viewer the ability to preview how the film was made, on the other hand, it is in itself a finished work, an artistic film which was refined in detail. The video by Sadowski is both a reflection on scientific theories concerned with the structure of the world, and an attempt at creating an alternative reality.
