ANIMATED FILM FESTIVALS IN NOVEMBER

As every year, autumn promised to be extremely intensive. In November, 25 Polish animated films will be shown 60 times at 30 festivals abroad. Below - for the first time - we present a monthly festival announcement dedicated exclusively to animated films.

As many as six Polish films were selected to screen in the programme of the les Sommets du Cinéma d’animation festival in Canada. In the competition for the best film, the films by the masters of Polish animated films will compete: "Fugue For Cello, Trumpet and Landscape" by Jerzy Kucia and “Hippos” by Piotr Dumała, as well as student films - “Ab ovo” by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi and “An Incredibly Elastic Man" by Karolina Specht. The 13th edition of the festival lasts until 7 December.

Among festivals which present the largest number of Polish animated films, Mexican CutOut Fest is worth mentioning, as there are nine Polish films in its programme, among others, “A Blue Room” by Tomasz Siwiński and “Moonshine” by Michał Poniedzielski. Also, the organisers of the Anilogue festival in Hungary decided to include five Polish films in the programme, such as “Lost Senses” by Marcin Wasilewski and “Darling” by Izabela Plucińska. Within the frames of the 12th edition of the Multivision Animated Film Festival in Russia, four Polish films will be shown - among them, “Three Kings” by Anna Błaszczyk and “Loop” by Michał Socha. All four films have a chance to win awards.

From among the remaining festivals, the following ones are worth mentioning: Animated Dreams (“Baths”, “To Thy Heart”), Cairo IFF in Egypt (“Darling”, “To Thy Heart”), ZINEBI in Spain (“Ars moriendi”, “Baths”) and Istanbul International SFF in Turkey (“Ab ovo,” “Lost Senses,” “Baths”).

The animated documentary film which enjoys quite remarkable interest this month is the film by Adela Kaczmarek “The Governance of Love”. The film was invited to participate in the Mexican festival DOCSDF, Cinema Verite in Iran and Olympia festival in Greece.

This month, the latest animated film by Wojciech Sobczyk, “Summer 2014”, continues its festival tour. The film, which was nominated for the EFA award at the 54th edition of Krakow Film Festival in May, this month will be shown at the European Film Festival in Sevilla within the frames of non-competing screening prepared by European Film Academy.
The most popular animated film in November remains the same for months: “Baths” by Tomek Ducki (produced by Studio Miniatur Filmowych, Peek and Boo). This month, the latest film by Ducki will be shown at thirteen film festivals abroad, among others, at the festival in Leeds, Great Britain, Animated Dreams in Estonia, Sommets du Cinéma d’animation in Canada and Brest in France.

The popularity of “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul does not decrease. The film, which won the Grand Prix of the Japanese New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival last week, in November will compete for the awards of the festivals in Poitiers and Anilogue IAFF and will also be shown in the non-competing experimental section at the Belgian festival in Leuven and a screening of Polish short films in Cork, Ireland.

This month, also student films are doing quite well. After the debut at the German DOKLeipzig festival in October, the animated film by Katarzyna Melnyk, “Of A Forest”, was invited to other film festivals. The film went to the competition at the French festival Cinessone. The film by Karolina Specht - also a student of Lodz Film School - “An Incredibly Elastic Man”, will be shown at three festivals, among others, in the non-competing section at the Portugueses Cinanima festival. The student film “Fat and Skinny” by Aleksandra Brożyna will visit four festivals this month. It will be shown, among others, at the Mexican festival Cutout Fest and Multivision in Russia. Brożyna is a graduate of Lodz Film School, and her film was produced by Fumi Studio from Warsaw. The film by Tomasz Pilarski, “But she’s nice...” will have two festival screenings in November. Pilarski, who is a student of the University of Arts in Poznań, will show his film at the Korean festival Animpact and American festival The World Animation ISFF in Los Angeles.
