„SUMMER 2014” NOMINATED FOR THE EUROPEAN FILM AWARD
In one month, on December 13th, the award ceremony of European Film Awards will be held for the 27th time. Among the films that throughout the year received the nominations in the short film category stands the animated film “Summer 2014” by Wojciech Sobczyk.
The animation by Sobczyk premiered at 54th Krakow Film Festival in May. It was in Krakow where the film received the nomination for PRIX EFA for the Best Short Film. Every year the juries of each among the 15 short film festivals collaborating with EFA presents one of the European short films in competition with a nomination in the short film category of the European Film Awards. Krakow Film Festival is the only Polish festival accredited by EFA.
Harsh but poetic, “Summer 2014” is a treaty about the desire of domination and violence as the driving force of history, shown in the spectrum of grey. After a great battle, the surrounding landscape, devoured by great fire, looks apocalyptic. Meaningless flags flutter in a dead field. Sobczyk’s film presents history as a sequence of recurring plagues and misfortunes where man, trying to find his own place, gets lost even more and falls even lower.
“Summer 2014” was produced by the Krakow based Studio “A” Association of Animation, Experimental and Video Film Artists. Since its premiere at Krakow Film Festival the film was screened in the competition of the prestigious Hiroshima International Animation Film Festival that was held in August.
Since November the international promotion of “Summer 2014” is supported by the Krakow Film Foundation.
