“ZIEGENORT” WITH THE GRAND PRIX OF THE JAPANESE FESTIVAL
Last weekend brought yet another award for the film “Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul. The film won the Grand Prix at the Japanese festival New Chitose Airport IAFF.
There were 45 films made around the world in the international competition at the festival. “Ziegenort” was the only Polish film in the competition. Yesterday the jury announced the names of the winners. Tomasz Popakul received the Grand Prix for his diploma film “Ziegenort” - in person. Giving the award to the film, the jury justified their decision in the following way: “Ziegenort” is a powerful, subtle, and sensitive depiction of the mysteries and anxiety of youth.”
A small seaside village. Overworked father tries to teach his teenage son how to be a fisherman. The introvert boy-fish would have to face the first serious competition. The world, discovered by the boy, is full of disturbing signs, fascinating observations, which often awake fear in him. Intriguing, graphical animation by Popakul is an attempt to describe the anxieties of a teenager, entering adult life.
The film’s producer is the NoLabel studio from Kraków, and Krakow Film Foundation supports its promotion abroad. Tomasz Popakul is a graduate of Lodz Film School.
Ever since its premiere at the festival in Rotterdam, in January 2013, so far “Ziegenort” has been shown at almost 100 festivals abroad. Grand Prix of the Japanese festival is the 19th award won by the film abroad.
