AWARDS FOR „ALL SOULS’ DAY” AND „BEACH”

Last weekend another two awards were presented to Polish filmmakers. The fiction “All souls’ day” by Aleksandra Terpińska and animated “Beach” by Paweł Prewencki proved the most celebrated titles of the weekend.

200 films made in 51 countries across the globe were screened at the 2nd Kyiv International Short Film Festival. The joined running time of all the films screened in 29 programmes reached 44 hours. There was a Polish film – “All souls’ day” by Aleksandra Terpińska in the group of 22 films that competed for the Best Short Film Award. Sunday evening the jury announced the laureates – among them „All souls’ day” honoured with the Special Jury Award for the “sensible and sensitive approach to the most dramatic subject”. The author is a student at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and TV Department of Silesian University in Katowice and her film was so far screened at more than 12 international film festivals. The award in Kyiv is a third statuette for the film. It is  worth to mention that the acclaimed fiction short - “Normal people” by Piotr Złotorowicz, was screened as a part of student screening.

On 27th April the anniversary edition of BE FILM Underground Film Festival was brought to an end in New York. This year two Polish animated films made it to the final competition – “The Game” by Marcin Janiec and “Beach” by Paweł Prewencki.  “Beach” took the 1st Place in the Animation Category, leaving behind among the others Bill Plympton’s latest short “Drunker than a skunk”. Prewencki has had a great year with his previous animation “What happens when children don’t want to eat soup” that was screened and awarded at numerous festivals. His latest “Beach” is an animated impression of one summer day. The film is produced by University of  Arts in Poznań in coproduction with Mansarda Studio and Fifne Studio. At the beginning of June Prewencki’s animation will be screened  in the Graduation Film competition at Annecy.
