AWARDS FOR DOCUMENTARIES BY PALENTA AND RATH
The end of last week brought two awards for Polish documentary short films. Their directors – Adam Palenta (“Freestyle life”) and Martin Rath (“Written in ink”) received the awards in New York and Barcelona.
Last Thursday “Written in ink” by Martin Rath was presented to the New York audience as the film was selected to the fifth edition of one day long student film festival Wallabout. Every year the festival screens the most interesting student films made over the last two years. Martin Rath found himself among the 2013 laureates when his documentary was awarded the Best Cinematography Award. Yori Fabian is the author of cinematography in Rath’s documentary he made after his first year at Polish National Film School in Łódź. The film shows the story of a homeless man who after many years seeks to contact with his sister.The second important feature of the last weekend came up at the Saturday's closing of 4th edition of Spanish BCM Sports Film that begun last Thursday in Barcelona. Documentary, fiction and animated films on sports were presented in the programme of he festival accredited by the association of sport festivals FICTS. Two Polish films made it to the competitive sections of the festival – animated “Steven and the Beatle” by Piotr Loc Hoang Ngoc and documentary “Freestyle Life” by Adam Palenta. Last Saturday the laureates were announced – among them was Adam Palenta whose “Freestyle life” was acclaimed the Best Short Film of the festival. The film portraits disabled competitors during the Swimming World Championships. The film was produced by Munk Studio operating within Polish Filmmakers Association.
