POLISH ANIMATED FILMS AT ANNECY IAFF

International Animation Film Festival in Annecy has just revealed this year’s competitive line-up. What pleases us greatly is that this year apart from the Polish retrospective programme, Polish animated films will compete in four competitive sections.

In December 2012 Marcel Jean -  appointed new artistic director of the festival – announced Poland a Guest Country of the forthcoming edition of Annecy festival. Although the list of 50 titles included in the Polish retrospective programme hasn’t been yet announced we are happy to discover that this year there are some Polish animations in the competition.

In total nine animations hit the top selection and will compete for the awards in four competitive sections. Three of them „Railway watchman” by Piotr Szczepanowicz (prod. Polish Filmmakers Association - Munk Studio, No Label), „Ziegenort” by Tomasz Popakul (No Label) and „Darling” by Izabela Plucińska (prod. Clay Traces) were included in Short Film competition. Another three  - „Ab ovo” by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi – a student of Polish National Film School in Łódź and two films by graduates of University of Arts in Poznań - „Ars moriendi” by Miłosz Margański and „Beach” by Paweł Prewencki – were included in Graduation Film section. Among 27 films presented in TV Series competition there are two Polish representatives - „ Casparade” by Wojciech Wawszczyk and Kamil Polak (prod. Human Ark, Film Produkcja) and „Flapper the Hare” by Krzysztof Brzozowski and Jacek Łechtański (prod. Se-Ma-For). Last but not the least comes „Katachi” by Przemek Adamski and Katarzyna Kijek – an animated video for Shugo Tokumaru piece.

There were nearly 2,500 films submitted to this year’s edition of the festival. The competitive line up will feature 176 films produced in 43 countries including 52 shorts, 73 Tv films and 51 graduation films.
The feature film selection will be announced in late April.

The 37th edition of International Animation Film Festival will be held between 10th and 15th June 2013.
