TWO DRAGONS OF DRAGONS AT THE 57TH KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL
On Tuesday, the 30th of May, during the 57th Krakow Film Festival, two outstanding Polish animated film-makers: Witold Giersz and Daniel Szczechura will be honoured with the Dragon of Dragons award.
Krakow Film Foundation Programme Council decided to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Polish animated film, which falls this year, and honour two eminent veterans of this genre, Witold Giersz and Daniel Szczechura, with the Dragon of Dragons award.
Witold Giersz and Daniel Szczechura are among the greatest artists in the history of Polish animated film. Both were awarded many times at the most important festivals all over the world. At Krakow Film Festival, they were given the highest laurels 7 times each, Witold Giersz at the first edition in 1961, a year later, the award went to Daniel Szczechura. In the years 1963 and 1964, both were awarded, in the following three years, they won awards in turn.
The Dragon of Dragons award, given for exceptional contribution to the development of the international cinema, will be ceremoniously handed to the winners on the 30th of May, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. in the cinema Kijów.Centrum. The award ceremony will be accompanied by a presentation of exceptional films by both artists.
The programme of the Festival will also include a comprehensive retrospective of these artists' work and the film-makers' master classes on the 31st of May and on the 2nd of June.
