"THE BATHS" WIN THE CINE GOLDEN EAGLE AWARD
The film by Tomek Ducki was honoured with the prestigious award in the competition at the 59th CINE Awards in Washington, DC.
The CINE competition is held since 1957 and since that time, it honours film-makers for outstanding achievements. This year, the number of submissions in all competition categories was impressive. "The Baths" by the talented Tomek Ducki won the award in the short animated film category. The following animated films also got to the finals of this competition: "We can't live without cosmos" by Konstantin Bronzit from Russia, "The Oceanmaker" by Lucas Martell from the USA and "The Present" by Jacob Frey from Germany. You can find more information on the organiser's website.
"The Baths" introduces us to the murky waters of fantasy. Thanks to the extraordinary magic, this subtly stylised film leads through numerous layers of reality when it forces us to dive from a silent melancholy to a graphic madness of sports competition, where everything is turned upside down. The sense of reversing the centre of gravity - here, interpreted in a literal way - gains a hypnotising effect in the film. The film's producer is Warsaw Film Miniatures Studio and the English studio Peek and Boo.
The film won numerous awards in Poland and abroad for its visual style, for the soundtrack, script and for taking up the subject matter related to the elderly people. It was chosen the most interesting animated film, among others, at the festivals in New York City (Be Film The Underground Film Festival), Mexico City (Animasivo Animated Film Festival), Belgrade (Balkanima European Animated Film Festival), Berlin (Interfilm International Short Film Festival).
Tomek Ducki graduated from directing of animated film at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest (MOME) and at the National Film and Television School in London. He co-operated with animated film festivals and participated in the production of television series, art house films and music videos. His films were awarded many times at numerous international festivals.
