PITCHING ANITMATED IN POLAND AT 56TH KRAKOW FILM FESTIVAL
Animated in Poland was created with the intention to present the latest animated films made in Poland. The representatives of the selected projects will show their excerpts and will talk about their films, before they are shown at Polish and foreign film festivals. The presentation Animated in Poland was held for the first time in May 2013 at the 53rd edition of Krakow Film Festival in co-operation with the magazine shortcut. Last year, within the frames of the event, the projects of the following films were presented, among others "Impossible Figures and Other Stories II" by Marta Pajek, "Locus" by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi and "Xoxo - Hugs and Kisses" by Wiola Sowa, which will participate in this year's national and international competition at the 56th Krakow Film Festival.
Six projects qualified for this year's edition of Animated in Poland:
BŁOTO, dir. Alicja Błaszczyńska, prod. FUMI Studio
Self-sustainable housing estate, identical apartments and the nearby marshes form the world of Klara and her Boyfriend. When the bored girl ends their relationship because of a trifle, the world of blocks of flats and the marshes start to blend. Klara, tormented by pricks of conscience and bitterness, has to find her place in the new reality, in which the boundary between the concrete and the mud does not exist.
AUTO TERROR, dir. Wojciech A. Hoffman, prod: Munk Studio, -SFP, Fifne Studio, Poznań Film Commission
The film tackles the problem of the increasing car traffic in the world, and how we terrorise ourselves, packing our lives into metal boxes which are stuck in traffic jams. The animated film shows the development of this situation, using symbols. Auto terror is inspired by the imagery of independent, dark French comic books. The main protagonists live by the road. They spend their lives in noise, surrounded by exhaust fumes. Cars terrorise them. At some point, they cannot even cross the road. This problem is increasing, and together with it, a cow grows to an enormous size. At some point, the cars suddenly disappear from the local road. It turns out that the entire village is enclosed by a maze of ring roads and highways.
BERNARD, dir. Anna Oparkowska, prod: Grupa Smacznego
A short tale about loneliness, non-adaptaion and a desperate yearning for contact, set against harsh, winter landscapes. Bernard confronts the stereotype of a predator, which has to be avoided. Resigned, the tries to find the words to express the truth about loneliness and stifle the call of nature within himself.
SAMOTNOŚĆ, dir. Igor Kawecki, Betina Bożek, prod: Animated Film Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow
The animated film Samotność, based on a short story by Bruno Schulz of the same title, is a compilation of the world of literature and personal emotions and experiences of the authors. The prose by the writer from Drohobych is a source of inspiration for the film-makers, a starting point for the psychological study of the characters. Loneliness is an attempt to mirror the tangle of unspeakable emotions and inner feelings of a human being in a metaphysical experience of living.
KLINGERT'S DIVING SUIT, dir. Artur Wyrzykowski, prod: Artcore
Six-year-old Bi lost her younger brother in a flood. Her father, Karl Klingert, after losing his son, devoted himself totally to constructing the first semi-atmospheric diving suit in the world. If the demonstration of the diving suit goes well, Klingert will receive a grant and will go to England with his family. Bi believes that her brother is still alive. She thinks that the diving suit is a monster which possessed her father. She tries to destroy it, before her family will leave Wrocław forever.
Z WIATREM (working title), dir. Agnieszka Waszczeniuk, prod: University of Arts in Poznan
The film is a story about man and his relationship with nature - nature, of which we are a part, which has the ability to regenerate, to die and to return to life. Dreamy, unreal atmosphere and the wind, constantly blowing, which can destroy, but at the same time gives hope for the birth of something new, ask the question: are we watching the moment before the protagonist awakes, or just before he falls into the deepest sleep without any possibility of return?
The presentation will be conducted in English.
