"What happens when children don't eat soup" by Paweł Prewencki received the award for the best animated film within the frames of the Portuguese film festival - FEST, which took place from 1st to 8th July in Portuguese Espinho.
"What happens when children don't eat soup" is a gloomy story about two children and their grandfather. The naughty kids do not want to eat the soup and run away from the table. The grandfather awakens the wind in a magical way and traps the kids. They will be imprisoned in the soup forever. Disobedient children have to suffer. As Heinrich Hoffmann wrote: "Who does not eat soup, has to die."For eiht years, FEST takes place in the Portuguese city - Espinho. The main aim of the organizers, apart from the film competition, is the educational aspect and introducing young filmmakers to the film branch. Every year, hundreds of filmmakers and representatives of the film branch meet in Portugal. This year, within the frames of the practical workshops and master-class, the beginners on the market had a chance to meet, among others, Scandar Coptim - the director of Israeli Academy Award candidate "Ajami," Fernando Truebo - the Academy Award winner from Spain for "Belle Epoch" and the nomination for "Chico and Rita" as well as Kjartan Sveinsson - the member of Icelandic group Sigur Rós and award-winning film music composer. The young filmmakers had the opportunity to promote their finished films within the frames of Director's corner as well as promote their future projects in front of experienced producers within the frames of the pitching sessions.
It was not, however, the only Polish feature at the festival. The participant of the workshops for young people from the film branch - Bright Youth Screen - was Marcin Łuczaj, responsible for monthly screenings of short-length cinema World Shorts in Poland as well as co-ordination of foreign screenings at the Polish Short Film Festival Short Waves, financed from the funds of Polish Film Institute. Within the frames of the meetings, the participants had a chance to work with , among others, Paz Lazaro, the programme manager at Berlinare Panorama or Marion Klotz - responsible for the sale of artistic cinema in Memento Films. The result of the workshops will be shown in a form of a printed book and an e-book produced by Nisi-Masa, the leading platform supporting the young filmmakers, in which over 20 film organizations from the entire Europe are united.
