"MAGIC MOUNTAIN" AWARDED IN KARLOVE VARY

"Magic Mountain" – a feature lengh animation by Anca Damian coproduced by Poland was one of the laureates of the Karlove Vary IFF. The anniversary, 50th edition ended tonight.

"Magic Mountain" is the latest film by Anca Damian, dedicated to Adam Jacek Winkler – journalist, alpinist and dissentient. In the spirit of anti-communist resistance movement, he left Poland in 1965. He lived in Paris as an emigrant, where he became involved in active struggle against communism. When he heard about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he joined the Afghan people and fought under the command of Ahmad Shah Massoud. 

"Magic Mountain" was produced as a coproduction between Romania, Poland and France. Polish coproducers are Joanna Ronikier (Filmograf) and Włodzimierz Matuszewski (Studio Miniatur Filmowych).

During the closing ceremony the jury cosisting of 5 members decided to give a Special Award to the film by Anca Damian. The films selected to take part in the main competition were watched by the following jury members: Tim League (USA), Angelina Nikonova (Russia), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Iceland), Hengameh Panahi (France) i Ondřej Zach (Czech Republic). A total of 226 films were shown: 210 feature films (181 full-length and 29 short) and 16 documentary films during the 50th edition of the festival.
