"MAGIC MOUNTAIN" IN KARLOVE VARY

The anniversary 50th edition of the Film Film Festival in Karlove Vary began last Friday. In the main competition participates the feature length film by Anca Damian, "Magic Mountain," made in co-production with Poland.

"Magic Mountain" is the latest film by Anca Damian, dedicated to Adam Jacek Winkler. The protagonist is an individualist, he himself believed that in his passionate and simple character he resembles the character of Koziołek Matołek from Polish children's literature. In the spirit of anti-communist resistance movement, he left Poland in 1965. He lived in Paris as an emigrant, where he became involved in active struggle against communism. When he heard about the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he joined the Afghan people and fought under the command of Ahmad Shah Massoud.

It is already the second film which the Romanian director makes in co-production with Poland. The film "Crulic - the path to beyond", made four years earlier, was devoted to the famous case of Claudiu Crulic, who went on a hunger strike after he was unjustly accused of theft. Polish co-producers of the film are Filmograf and Studio Miniatur Filmowych, and its main producers are Aparte Film and Arizona Productions.

As the author writes on the film's website: "The Magic Mountain" is the second part of a film trilogy dedicated to heroism, which began with "Crulic - The path to beyond". Each time the story focuses on an individual facing his own death and wanting to give meaning to life.

"Magic Mountain" participates in the main competition at the festival in Karlove Vary, which is one of the most prestigious film festivals of the world. Thirteen feature-length films qualified for the main competition. The festival lasts until Saturday, July 11.
