“THE PROPHET” WILL OPEN ANNECY FILM FESTIVAL
Michał Socha - Polish animated filmmaker of the young generation - is one of the directors of the feature-length episodic film “Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet". The film, whose producer is Salma Hayek, will open this year's edition of Annecy Animation Film Festival.
"Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet" is a film adaptation of 26 poetic essays by Lebanese writer and philosopher Kahil Gibran, which were published for the first time in 1923. The collection, which is the most popular book by Gibran, has been translated into over 40 languages so far. The film adaptation was made on the basis of eight essays selected from the collection, and each of them was made by a different director. The people responsible for the artistic shape of individual segments of the film include, among others, Tomm Moore, Bill Plympton and Joan C. Gratz. However, the person responsible for the entire film concept is Roger Allers - the director of, among others, "The Lion King," who is the author of the script and the supervisor uniting the project's artistic side.
The film had its première at the last year's festival in Toronto, and this summer it will be put up for distribution in the United States. The organisers of the film festival in Annecy will present "Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet" as the opening film at this year's edition of the festival.
Michał Socha is a graduate of the University of Arts in Poznań. He won popularity and renown abroad thanks to his diploma film "The Chick," which was shown on tens of film festivals and won a lot of awards. For several years, Socha has been working with the largest American film studios - he is the author of the animated film credits at the beginning of the feature film "The Pillars of the Earth" and of the cough gag opening one of the episodes of the series "The Simpsons."
