“ZIMA” WINS IN FINLAND
Tomek Popakul and Kasumi Ozeki's film secures yet another accolade. The production by Yellow Tapir Film has been crowned the best professional animation at the Turku Animated Film Festival.
The Turku Animated Film Festival, though a relative newcomer to the animation circuit, has swiftly established itself as a must-attend event for animators. Its program showcases a curated selection of domestic and international animated films, with its core comprised of competitive sections featuring productions under 30 minutes. The organisers have set their sights on creating one of Finland's premier animation festivals, aiming to serve as a nexus connecting industry professionals, filmmakers, and animation enthusiasts alike.
The victorious Zima, co-directed by Tomek Popakul and Kasumi Ozeki, presents a mosaic portrait of a small fishing village. It artfully depicts the delicate equilibrium of warm, tender care and cold, emotional cruelty that exists in the interdependence between humans, between humans and animals, and amongst animals themselves. It's a remarkable tale of solitude and community crafted in the spirit of magical realism.
