Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen showcases films lasting no longer than 40 minutes. It's the only Dutch festival qualifying for the Oscars in the short fiction film and animated film categories. Last year, almost 3000 films were submitted for selection.
The Polish-Dutch co-production Grandmamauntsistercat by Zuza Banasińska tells the story of a matriarchal family as seen through the eyes of a child grappling with a propaganda-laden reality full of ideological slogans. The materials were originally created as educational and propaganda tools in communist Poland but were transformed for the film, becoming a kind of autobiographical memory centre. The production was created using materials from the WFO Film Studio. "
Meanwhile, Szymon Ruczyński's short animated film received two awards. There Are People in the Forest was awarded a special mention in the New Arrivals competition and the Youth Award, which is given to the best film by the youth jury.A truck stops next to a lonely, limping man. Armed men jump out of it. They grab him and drive him back into the forest. The residents of a nearby village are the only witnesses. Since 2021 situations like this one have become part of everyday life on the Polish-Belarusian border. It's an animated documentary about the refugee crisis created by a resident of a border town.
