"CRAB" WITH A DOUBLE AWARD AT A FRENCH FESTIVAL
The audience and the jury of the French film festival Premiers Plans appreciated the short animated film by Piotr Chmielewski. The film left the festival with two awards.
Taking place in Angers, Premiere Plans presents film debuts of European directors. The programme is rich in feature productions, animations and documents. The audience has both a chance to watch the very first films made by promising filmmakers and to get familiar with a wide variety of work of the already recognized ones, to whom several retrospectives are devoted.
Piotr Chmielewski’s animation received the Audience Award and the L’Extra Court Award. The awarded Crab is an attempt to discover the worlds of the titular crustacean by taking his perspective through his eyes and ears. Animals are silent witnesses to our history; they accompanied us during its greatest failures and successes. Their life path parallels ours - we eat them, use them as tools, and sometimes we just do not notice they exist. But what happens when we try their perspective? How do the events we all know from history lessons look like through the eyes of animals?
