"KILL IT AND LEAVE THIS TOWN" WINS IN OTTAWA
Mariusz Wilczyński's first full-length production won the Grand Prize at one of the most important festivals dedicated to animation.
Ottawa International Animation Festival is the oldest and most important animation events in North America. The history of the Canadian festival began in 1976 with the first edition of the Biennial International Animation Festival. The Ottawa Festival will be held from September 23 to October 4, 2020.
The winning animation is an autobiographical impression, a reminiscence of childhood pictures, in which the memories of deceased parents and hometown of Łódź come alive. An all star cast of voices can be heard in the animation, among others Krystyna Janda, Andrzej Chyra, Maja Ostaszewska and Małgorzata Kożuchowska.
The world premiere of "Kill It and Leave This Town" took place in the Encounters competition at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival.
Escaping despair after the loss of his loved ones, the protagonist hides in a safe land of memories, where time stands still and all his loved ones live. Over the years, the city develops in his imagination. One day, heroes and idols from childhood known from literature and cartoons, who are eternally young in the minds of future generations, arrive uninvited. When the protagonist discovers that everyone has grown old and that there is no eternal youth, he decides to return to real life.
