POLISH ANIMATION AT INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN AUGUST

Going to film festivals is a popular way to spend your summer holidays. In August cinemagoers cannot complain and neither can our animators - their films will be presented at numerous international festivals.

At the ongoing Anima Mundi Festival in Brazil the audience will see 10 Polish animations. The following films will be presented in the competition: "Bernard" by Anna Oparkowska, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska, "Room" by Michał Socha and "Nebula" by Marcin Nowrotek.  The festival will also show "Mr Minuscule and the Whale by Andrzej Gosieniecki, "Moczarski's Case" by Tomasz Siwiński, "Evening" by Izabela Plucińska, "REM" by Artur Hanaj, "M.V.P." by Artur Marcol and "Cosmos" by Daria Kopiec.

Today Melbourne International Film Festival begins in Australia. Two Polish animations were invited to the competition: "III" by Marta Pajek and "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska.  Both films will be also presented by the end of the month in the competition of Turku Animated Film Festival in Finland. Marta Pajek's film will be shown as well in the competition of Silhouette Festival in France.  Among the films competing with "III" will be "The Other" by Marta Magnuska and "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht.

In the first half of the month La Guarimba International Film Festival will take place in Italy. In the competition the audience will see the previous film by Marta Magnuska "Foreign Body". Another film focused on human body is Weronika Kuc's animation "Beautiful" which will be presented this month in the international competition at Monterrey Festival in Mexico.

A strong representations of Polish animations can be found in the programme of the 17th animated film festival in Hiroshima.  Five productions were selected to the competition: "Moczarski's Case" by Tomasz Siwiński, "Fish Shop" by Maria Kulpa, "Traces of Ephemeral" by Agnieszka Waszczeniuk, "XOXO – Hugs and Kisses" by Wiola Sowa and "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht.

A previous film by Karolina Specht  "Beside Oneself" will be presented in the competition of PSIAF Palm Springs International Animation Festival & Expo, alongside two other animations: "Three Women on a Bench" by Karolina Borgiasz and "Room" by Michał Socha. The latter was also invited to the competition of yet another American festival - Salute Your Shorts - and to the competition of the prestigious SICAF animated film festival in South Korea. The other film competing at SICAF will be "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska.

Four Polish films will compete for awards at Animation NOW! in New Zealand: "Room" by Michał Socha, "Oh God!" by Betina Bożek, "Evening" by Izabela Plucińska and once again "Moczarski's Case" by Tomasz Siwiński. Izabela Plucińska's film will be also presented at SAMPO Puppet Theatre Festival in Finland, and Betina Bożek's animation at Belo Horizonte in Brazil.

Anna Oparkowska's film "Bernard" continues doing well abroad - after visiting Brazil it will go to Austria and ALPINALE Short Film Festival. "Black" by Tomasz Popakul will also have two screenings - at Scribe Video Center's Street Movies! Film Festival in the United States and Animix Festival in Israel, where we will also see "The Escape" by Jarosław Konopka.

"Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowskia will be presented twice this month. The first screening will take place at Odense Festival in Denmark and the second at Animaphix in Italy. At the latter festival we will also see "XOXO – Hugs and Kisses" by Wiola Sowa and "Carrot Field" by Kacper Zamarło.
