AWARDS FOR POLISH FILMMAKERS AT CARTOON MOVIES TRIBUTES
Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman were chosen Directors of the Year, and Polish studio Platige Films - Producer of the Year.
The aim of the Cartoon Movie Tributes is to award companies and personalities for their outstanding contribution to the animation feature film industry.
All professionals attending the Cartoon Movie vote in three categories: Director, Distributor and Producer. This year Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, directors of the Academy Awards nominee "Loving Vincent", were chosen Directors of the Year, and Polish studio Platige Films, in which the film "Another Day of Life" was made, became the Producer of the Year.
The award ceremony took place on March 9th during the Cartoon Movie forum. The winners received the Cartoon Movie Tributes trophy, symbol of the professional recognition from their peers.
"Loving Vincent" tells the story of life and death of one of the world's most distinguished painters - Vincent van Gogh - using 65 000 hand-painted frames. The film follows an investigation into the artist's death. The filmmakers brought to life over 100 van Gogh's paintings.
"Another Day of Life" is based on Ryszard Kapuściński's book. It's a story of a reporter seeking the truth about war, who set out on an extremely dangerous journey through Angola. The film takes place in 1975 in the war-torn country. During his expedition Kapuściński realizes that he witnesses events the meaning of which requires him to go beyond the role of an observer. It will initiate his rebirth both as a writer and as a human being.
Cartoon Movie is an event for animated film professionals. During a 3 days long pitching forum filmmakers can present their project to the potential co-producers, distributors and broadcasters. This year Cartoon Movie takes place March 7-9 in Bordeaux.
