SPECIAL MENTION FOR „TOTO” AT A FESTIVAL IN NICE

Last weekend brought no less than ten awards for Polish short film directors. The 13th edition of Un festival c’est trop court, the short film festival in Nice, has added a special mention to the set, this time for an animated film.

During this year’s edition of the festival, two films were representing Poland: the fiction “Forever Mine” directed by Matylda Kawka and the animated “Toto” by Zbigniew Czapla. It’s the latter that was recognized by the jury at the closing ceremony of the festival and received the Special Mention. It’s the second time in a row when Czapla presents his film in Nice, at the last year’s editio his film “Paperbox” was listed for the competition. The producer of the film is Warsztat Filmowy from Krakow.

A story of a sensitive boy, raised by a single and hard working mother, somewhere in a far province, where life revolves around daily routines. The little protagonist is being deceitfully seduced by a shady “master” and a cynical collector of keys. In the result of some mysterious and confusing events, the world of his unconcerned childhood falls apart. The boy gets lost on his way back home while his concerned mother takes up a desperate attempt of finding her little son. A universal story about naivety and irreversibly lost dreams. A kaleidoscope of events filled to the brim with suspense and horror. If we lack the word to name the phenomenon, we don’t know exactly what happened.

It’s not the first success of Poles in Nice. Last year, the award for the best actor went to Piotr Głowacki, who played the main role in the film “Normal People” directed by Piotr Złotorowicz.

Every year, the festival in Nice brings together an audience of more than 8,000 viewers, presenting over 170 short films from all over the world. The films are evaluated in four, competitive categories: international, regional, experimental and animated films. The organizer of this festival is the Heliotrope association.
