TWO POLISH ANIMATIONS SHORTLISTED FOR THE OSCAR
On December 1st American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced 10 titles of short animated films qualified for competing for an Oscar nomination. “Paths of hate” by Damian Nenow and “Magic piano” directed by Martin Clapp are in the selected group.
“Magic piano” made by British director Martin Clapp is a puppet animation shot in the stereo 3D technology, that tells a story of two Varsovian children that one day happen to find the old piano. All of the sudden the instrument transforms into the magic flying machine that takes Anna and her cousin Chip Chip to the trip to London, where the girl unites with her father whom she hasn’t seen for a long time. Film was made as a part of the full length “Flying machine” project produced by Breakthru Films in coproduction between Poland, UK, Norway, China and India.
“Paths of Hate” is a fourth production signed by Platige Image that made its way to the list of pre- Oscar nominations. Animation made by Damian Nenow is a short tale of beasts, which lie dormant deep in the human soul and push it into the abyss of blind hatred, rage and anger, right to the chasm leading to the inevitable destruction and annihilation.
Both animations will compete with other eight films that received the awards at festivals enabled to grant the Oscars nominations:

The top five titles nominated to Oscar for the Best Short Animated Film will be announced on 24th January.
