On 6th November the 21st edition of Brazilian Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival Curta Cinema reached the end. Fortunate for the young Polish filmmakers, two films were presented the awards.

This year in Rio de Janeiro the audience were given a chance of watching six Polish short films “Barbican” by Bartek Żmuda, “Gallery” by Robert Proch, “Eclipse” by Paweł Maślona, “Maska” by Quay Brothers, “Vakha and Magomed” by Marta Prus and “Without snow” by Magnus von Horn. On closing the festival two of them received the Audience Awards – “Barbican” proved the best among the fiction shorts while “Gallery” won the animation cathegory.

“Barbican” produced at Polish National Film School in Łódź scores the third award this Autumn. After its latest successes in Tehran and Beijing it was Rio de Janeiro that brought new victory to the film. Bartek Żmuda’s short tells the story of a young man who after experiencing a series of unpleasant coincedences finds himself in the very difficult situation.

Animated “Gallery” is Robert Proch’s fourth film that was so far screened at more than thirty international festivals and was presented numerous mentions and awards. The film that was produced at University of Arts in Poznań is a satirical parable on the consumer habits in modern society.
