"SQUARING THE CIRCLE" AWARDED AT ETIUDA&ANIMA
Karolina Specht's animation was awarded by the international Jury of the ANIMA competition and won the Silver Jabberwocky at the 25th International Film Festival Etiuda&Anima.
The Krakow festival is the oldest festival in Poland confronting the achievements of students of film and art schools from around the world and the achievements of creators of artistic animation - professionals, students and independent performers. The program includes numerous thematic sections, special screenings and three competitions: ETIUDA, ANIMA and ANIMA PL.
61 productions (from 1900 submitted) were selected to this year's ANIMA competition, including five from Poland. Apart from Karolina Specht's film, which was awarded with the second award, the other films competing for the title of the best short animation were: "III" by Marta Pajek, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska, "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec and "Year" by Małgorzata Bosek-Serafińska.
"Squaring the Circle" is a full of graphic metaphors, semi-abstract story about an impossible feeling. At first glance it seems that SQUARE lives among chaos and endless change. But with a closer look we can notice that the systems in which he functions are constantly repeating themselves, introducing a routine and hypnotizing by not allowing any movement. And then a new element sneaks into the pattern, which for a moment will allow the SQUARE to look at reality a little differently.
