“HEADPRICKLES” WIN OSCAR-QUALIFYING AWARD
The animated film by Katarzyna Miechowicz was recognised at the Guanajuato International Film Festival in Mexico.
The Guanajuato International Film Festival is the most important festival promoting the work of young directors in Latin America. Each year, the festival draws an audience of 90,000 people who watch a program composed of more than 400 films in cinemas and venues located in the two festival cities of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato. A win at the festival gives animated shorts a shot at competing for the Oscars.
Headprickles by Katarzyna Miechowicz is one such film. The production left Mexico with the title of best animated short of the festival.
If you are plagued by intrusive thoughts such as: What guarantees victory in a skeleton competition? What is the optimal number of plastic bags to pack one banana? Or, where did we come from? Who are we? Where are we going? – that's great! Headprickles is going to answer at least one of these questions. The film consists of a collection of several animated poems connected by a motif of looping in absurdity. In a colourful labyrinth of observations, the characters try to give meaning to the meaningless – or mindlessly linger it. Headprickles probably won't change the world, cause shock, or spark a revolution, but perhaps they will prickle your head during the screening?
