“ONCE THERE WAS A SEA…” AWARDED IN CLERMONT-FERRAND
The Polish-Slovak co-production directed by Joanna Kożuch received an award at this year's Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival.
The festival in Clermont-Ferrand has been held in high esteem by the film community for many years. Its selectors pick the best short films, invite numerous guests, and organise interesting meetings. This year's 44th edition of the festival took place between 28 January and 5 February 2022 and – as usual – had an extremely rich program.
Once There Was a Sea…, the Polish-Slovak co-production by Joanna Kożuch, received a Student Prize. The animated film tells the story of the inhabitants of the city of Moʻynoq in Uzbekistan, who were affected by one of the greatest ecological disasters in the history of mankind. As a result of decisions made in the 1960s, the Aral Sea is drying up. The people who stayed behind in the once port city, which is now 150 kilometres from the sea, live with memories of the power of fishing and dream of the return of the great water.
