"POLAND IN FOCUS" AT QUEBEC CITY FILM FESTIVAL IN CANADA
On the 12th of September starts the Quebec City Film Festival. During the nine days of the festival, the audience will have a chance to get acquainted with as many as twenty-three Polish films. Three of them qualified for the competition section, while the rest of them will be presented in the screenings in various side sections within the frames of Focus on Poland.
All three films, which qualified for the international competition, are already familiar to our readers from numerous nominations and awards at the festivals abroad. These are animated films, created by young and extremely talented artists: Bless You! by Paulina Ziółkowska, Thicket by Adrianna Matwiejczuk and Tango of Longing by Marta Szymańska.
The remaining twenty films will be shown in the side sections of the Quebec City Film Festival. In the Open Air screening programme, organised in the open-air cinema, the following films will be presented: Oh, God! by Betina Bożek and Room by Michał Socha. In addition, the most highly valued Polish films of the last 10 years will be shown in the sections dedicated to animated, documentary and feature film productions.
On Monday, the 16th of September, in the Animation Program, a wide range of both older and newer animated films will be shown. From among films which were made some time ago, you can watch What happens when children don't eat soup by Paweł Prewencki, The Railway Watchman by Piotr Szczepanowicz, Danse Macabre by Małgorzata Rżanek, To Thy Heart by Ewa Borys and The Baths by Tomek Ducki. In addition, the viewers will have a chance to get acquainted with Woolen Cogwheels by Bartosz Kędzierski, Domestication by Sylwia Gaweł, Creatures by Tessa Moult-Milewska, Don't Lose Your Head by Karolina Specht, A Documentary Film by Marcin Podolec, Black by Tomasz Popakul, Pussy by Renata Gąsiorowska and Bernard by Anna Oparkowska.
Polish short feature films will be shown at the Quebec City Film Festival on Wednesday, the 18th of September. Among them, there are Frozen Stories by Grzegorz Jaroszuk, All Souls' Day by Aleksandra Terpińska, The Dogcatcher by Daria Woszek, 16.03 by Natalia Siwicka and Morning Has Broken by Olga Chajdas.
On Saturday, the 21st of September, at the Documentary Program, the following films will be shown: Volte by Monika Kotecka and Karolina Poryzała, A Visit by Matej Bobrik, Super Unit by Teresa Czepiec, Polonaise by Agnieszka Elbanowska, Sisters by Michał Hytroś, Daniel by Anastazja Dąbrowska and Close Ties by Zofia Kowalewska.
In addition to the screenings, during the Quebec City Film Festival, you can meet the makers of some of the films shown within the frames of the Focus. One author of a film from each section will come to Canada: the documentary film Super Unit will be represented by Teresa Czepiec, the feature film Frozen Stories will be introduced by Grzegorz Jaroszuk, in turn, the animated film The Railway Watchman will have its representative in Piotr Szczepanowicz. After the screenings of these films, extended Q&A sessions will be organised. The Polish partner of the Focus is the Krakow Film Foundation, which will be represented by Marta Świętek. Focus is supported by the Polish Film Institute.
