POLISH ANIMATED FILMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN SEPTEMBER
Holidays are coming to an end, but the festival season is in full swing. Polish animated films will be shown at many important film events. At the Quebec City Film Festival, a review of Polish short film productions will be shown, at the Russian Message to Man Izabela Plucińska will have her retrospective, and that is not all. Check out where and which Polish films will be shown this month.
As soon as on the 3rd of September, starts the Swiss Fantoche - International Animation Film Festival. In the competition section, there is the animated film "Acid Rain," and in the non-competing section, "Metro" by Natalia Krawczuk. A day later starts the Baiqonyr International Short Film Festival in Kazakhstan, where the audience will see "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska and the Shorts México - Mexico International Short Film Festival with the competition screening of "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik.
A week later, at the Portuguese FIKE Évora International Short-Film Festival, we will watch three Polish animated films. To the competition there, the following films are invited: "My Strange Elder Brother" by Julia Orlik, "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski and "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska. In turn, on the 11th of September, the 15th edition of the World Festival of Animated Film Varna begins. In Bulgaria, we will keep our fingers crossed for "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec. The animation will be also shown at the Finnish Helsinki Intl Film Festival - Love & Anarchy and at the German Festival of Animation Berlin.
On the 12th of September start as many as three festivals at which we will watch Polish animated films. In the United States, the two-day long Victory International Film Festival is held, where the following films will compete for the awards: "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski and "III" by Marta Pajek, and in France, starts the Comme Nous Brulons Festival with the non-competing screening of "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska. However, the real treat will be the Canadian Quebec City Film Festival with Polish focus.
Canadians will have the opportunity to watch almost 30 Polish short films and meet some of the film-makers. Among the selected films, over half of them are Polish animated films. And three of them: "Thicket" by Adrianna Matwiejczuk, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska and "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska will have a chance to win awards. In turn, at the Russian Message to Man International Film Festival, there will be a retrospective of the works by Izabela Plucińska. The viewers there will have a chance to watch six films by the outstanding Polish animated film-maker (more about the event here). In addition to the review of the films by the animated film-maker, the film "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska is invited to the competition section. The animated film will also be shown at the Paris International Animation Film Festival.
In the half of the month, starts the Greek International Short Film Festival in Drama. The animated film by Jola Bańkowska, "Story," will compete for the award. The film will also have a chance to triumph at the Animation Block Party in the United States, at the Indonesian Balinale Bali International Film Festival and in Great Britain, where the 25th edition of the Encounters Film Festival is held. As many as five Polish animated films are included in the competition programme at the British festival. Apart from Bańkowska, the following people will compete for the Jury's recognition: Marta Magnuska with "The Other," Karolina Specht with "Squaring the Circle," Marta Szymańska and her "Tango of Longing,"and Izabela Plucińska with "Portrait of Suzanne."
The last two of the aforementioned animated films will also be shown at the Ottawa International Animation Festival. To the competition there, "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul is invited. The hypnotising production by the Studio Animoon has a chance to win yet another award at the Lille International Short Film Festival. In turn, "Pussy" will be screened at another festival in France.The film by Renata Gąsiorowska went to the non-competing section at the Ramene ta Culotte Festival.
