POLISH ANIMATED FILMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN MAY
May is a festival-friendly month for European fans of animated films. Polish productions will be shown, among others, in Portugal, Moldova, the Czech Republic and Germany. An important point on the map is Cannes and the Krakow Film Festival that starts shortly after. Be sure to check where and when you can watch Polish animated films this month.
The first half of May brings several important competition screenings. "Cold Pudding Settles Love" by Urszula Palusińska has a chance to win a special mention at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, "Acid Rain" by Tomasz Popakul can conquer the IndieLisboa - the International Film Festival, where the animated film "Journey to the Magic Waterfall" by Bogna Kowalczyk is also included in the programme. In turn, at the Czech festival Anifilm, three Polish animated films have the opportunity to win awards: "III" by Marta Pajek, "The Other" by Marta Magnuska and "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski.
In the second week of the month start three festivals at which Polish animated films will be shown. In Moldova starts the ClassFest International Festival of Film and Theatre Schools, the audience of which will watch as many as seven Polish short films, including four animated films – "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska, "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht, "The Other" by Marta Magnuska and "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska. The last of the aforementioned productions will have its non-competing screening at the German Neisse Film Festival. At the same time, the Pictoplasma Festival is held in Germany, where the audience will watch "Pussy" by Renata Gąsiorowska and "Story" by Jola Bańkowska.
On the 14th of May starts the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival. In the prestigious competition section Cinefondaction, there is the Polish animated film "Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik. It is also worthwhile to pay attention to the animated film "Roadkill." The film was made by the Polish director Leszek Mozga.
Three days after the Cannes Film Festival, the American Rooftop Films will roll out the red carpet. In the programme, there are "III" by Marta Pajek and "Acid Rain" by Tomasz Popakul. Both animated films will have the chance to win awards at the Austrian VIS Vienna Shorts.
At the end of the month, there will be two more screenings of "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht. One competition screening in Kiev at the Molodist festival, and the second one in the non-competing section at the Russian International Animation Film Festival Big Cartoon Festival.
The turn of May and June is the date when the Krakow Film Festival takes place. As it is the case every year, there is a large set of animated films in the Polish Competition in store for the viewers and three selected films in the International Competition. You can read more about it here.
