POLISH SHORTS AT GO SHORT
Tomorrow in the evening the fourth edition of Dutch short film festival GO SHORT will kick off. This year proved extremely fortunate for Polish films as eight titles were selected to the festival’s competition. What’s more another five films will be screened in frame of the special programme POLISH SHORTS.
Five Polish films were selected to the Breaking Ground competitive section that screens student films made all over the Europe. Among the 20 titles listed in the programme one can easily trace some Polish entries – starting from documentary “38,5” by Grzegorz Dębowski and “Written in Ink” by Martin Rath, fiction “Frozen Stories” by Grzegorz Jaroszuk – all made at Polish National Film School in Łódź, animated “Gallery” by Robert Proch – a graduate of University of Arts in Poznań ending with “The Fourth Man” by Krzysztof Kasior produced at of Radio and TV Department of the Silesian University. Meanwhile, the International Competition will present “Returns” by Krzysztof Kadłubowski – recently awarded in Zagrzeb -, “Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla and “The Lost Town of Świteź” by Kamil Polak. The winners of all the cathegories will be announced at Saturday’s closing gala.The special POLISH SHORTS screening features eight films in two sections according to genre. The programme was composed of the most frequently screened films that in the last 4 years came up to the attention of international audiences and festival’s juries. First programme features fiction “Don’t be afraid of the dark room” by Kuba Czekaj, “Without snow” by Magnus von Horn as well as animated “Gallery” by Robert Proch and “Ritual” by Zbigniew Czapla. The documentary programme consists of “Six weeks” by Marcin Janos Krawczyk, “The Seeds” by Wojciech Kasperski, “38,5” by Grzegorz Dębowski and “That’s life” by Daniel Zieliński.
Apart from competitive sections, the festival’s programme is abundant with thematic cycles such as: Music & Film, Short Film Specials, Daniela Mulloy’s Retrospective or HKU Highlights presenting the films made at Utrecht School of Arts.
Another event taking place in frame of the festival is Go Short Student Campus organized in cooperation with Breaking Ground. During a six- day long workshop film school students from all over the Europe will work on a short film that will celebrate its premiere on the final night of the festival. The emphasis of this year’s campus is on the narrative strengths of sound in film.
Festival in Nijmegen will last till Sunday.
