RENATA GĄSIOROWSKA’S “PUSSY” TO SCREEN AT THE ROTTERDAM FESTIVAL

Despite nearly a decade having passed since its premiere, the animated film “Pussy”, directed by Renata Gąsiorowska, remains one of the most widely screened and most talked-about Polish animated films worldwide. This time, the production has been selected for the programme of the prestigious International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), which will take place from 29 January to 8 February 2026.

The film will be presented as part of the special thematic programme “The Future is NOW”, prepared to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the National Organization for Women (NOW) – a milestone in the history of civil rights movements and second-wave feminism. The section celebrates films that address issues of emancipation, corporeality, and social change with formal and thematic boldness.

The International Film Festival Rotterdam has long been regarded as one of the most important events dedicated to independent and experimental cinema. Since its first edition in 1972, the festival has consistently showcased both emerging filmmakers and established auteurs, placing a strong emphasis on innovative cinematic forms, media art, and arthouse film.

“Pussy” is an uncompromising and witty animated film exploring female intimacy and autonomy. Its protagonist hopes to spend a pleasurable evening alone with herself, but everyday distractions repeatedly get in the way. At that point, the titular Pussy takes control, guiding her towards discovering the pleasure of engaging with her own body. Addressing female sexuality in a bold and taboo-free manner, the film has earned recognition from audiences and festival juries at numerous international festivals over the years.
