“BIRDS OF PARADISE” RECEIVE A SPECIAL MENTION AT THE PÖFF SHORTS FESTIVAL IN TALLINN

“Birds of Paradise”, directed by Tomek Ducki, has received a Jury Mention in the Animated Children’s Film category of the international animation competition at PÖFF Shorts. The winners of this year’s edition were announced on Saturday, 15 November, during the official Award Ceremony.

The jury’s statement we read: "For beautiful  artwork  and wonderful animation, in which the world of birds has funny and unusual ideas".

PÖFF Shorts, an integral part of Estonia’s Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), is one of the largest short film and animation festivals in the region. Its mission is to present the finest animated and live-action short films of all genres, created by cutting-edge talents and bold visionaries from around the world.

Since 2019, PÖFF Shorts has been a member of the European Film Academy (EFA), selecting one competition title each year as a candidate for the European Film Awards in the short film category. The festival is also BAFTA-qualifying and a member of the international Short Film Conference.

Ducki’s awarded animation, “Birds of Paradise” depicts a world in which bird droppings-considered a nuisance by humans-serve as the foundation of life for a particular flock of birds. The delicate balance of their unusual ecosystem is disrupted when a mysterious object appears on the shore. Initially fascinating, it soon triggers profound social changes, ushering the flock into a new cultural and technological era. Yet stepping out of the state of nature comes at a high cost.
