POLISH ANIMATED FILMS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVALS IN OCTOBER

Autumn is definitely the season of the animated film, and October confirms that. It is in this month when the following festivals are held, among others, Balkanima, Animatou, Bucheon, Primanima, Big Cartoon Festival, ANIM’EST and BANIALUKA, and that is not all! You will find Polish animated films in the programmes of all these festivals.

The festival frenzy in October starts on the very first day of the month. This is when the 16th edition of BALKANIMA starts. In the special section, the Serbian audience will watch "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul. The following films are invited to the competition there: "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, "Leather" by Karolina Borgiasz, "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz and "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. The last of the aforementioned animations will also be shown at the festivals which start a day later: at the Film Festival for Women’s Rights in Korea and the Best Of International Short Film Festival in France. 

On the 3rd of October start three more events with Polish films in the programme. At the Slovenian Stoptrik Film Festival, the audience will have a chance to watch "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik, "Portrait of Suzanne" by Izabela Plucińska and "Marbles" by Natalia Spychała. In Luxembourg starts the 12th edition of the Central and Eastern European Film Festival CinEast, where these animated films will be shown: "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska, "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski and "Story" by Jola Bańkowska. In turn, on the other side of the pond, at the Nashville Film Festival, "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul will be present. 

A day later, it will be just as exciting. In Romania, starts the ANIM'EST International Animation Film Festival, in whose competition four Polish animated films are included: "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, "Strong Independent Space" by Damian Krakowiak and "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska, and in the non-competing sections, there will be no lack of Polish productions, either. On the same day in Italy starts the Milano Film Festival, at which "Thicket" by Adrianna Matwiejczuk will have its screening, and in Japan, the Animated Spirits Festival Tokyo is held, where the film "III" by Marta Pajek will have a chance to win the award.  

The last part of the famous trilogy will also be shown to the viewers and the jurors of the Animatou - International Animation Film Festival, where a lot of Polish productions will have a chance of winning the awards. This year's edition of the Swiss festival is special for the Polish animated film because it will feature an extensive review of it (you can read more about this issue here). In addition to the competition films, there will be no lack of slightly older Polish films. 

Two Polish animated films were accepted for the Irish IndieCork Festival: "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska and "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. The second of the aforementioned animated films will also be present at the Nice European Film Festival Un Festival C'est Trop Cour. "Squaring the Circle" by Karolina Specht and "Norma" by Agata Mianowska also have a chance to win the awards at the French festival. At the end of the month, the animated film by Specht will be shown at the Primanima World Festival of First Animations in Hungary, too.  In the competition at this festival, there are also three more Polish animated films: "Guilt" by Marcjanna Urbańska, "The Other" by Marta Magnuska and "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. 

The following days mean even more festival experiences. For the 60th time, in the Czech Republic, the International Short Film Festival Brno16. is held. In the competition, there are "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski and  "Journey to the Magic Waterfall" by Bogna Kowalczyk. The first of these animated films has a chance to win awards also at the Montreal Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. At the same time starts the Kaohsiung Film Festival, where "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik will compete for the awards. And at another Taiwanese festival - the Taichung International Animation Festival – "Colaholic" by Marcin Podolec will have a chance for a statuette. 

The number of screenings is impressive, and this is only the first half of the month. The second part of October opens with another two festivals at which the audience will watch "III" by Marta Pajek. The first one, in France at the Annual Rennes International Fantastic Short Film Festival - Court Métrange, and the second one, at the Lausanne Underground Film & Music Festival in Switzerland, where the film by Pajek will meet "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska. At the same time, in Germany, "Story" by Jola Bańkowska will be competing for the awards. The animated film is invited to the competition at the festival dokumentArt. 

On the 17th of October start two American festivals: the 11th edition of Milwaukee and the international shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival. At the first one, the following films will be present: "Story" by Jola Bańkowska, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska and "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul. In turn, "You Are Overreacting" is invited to the competition at the second one. The next day, the Korean Bucheon International Animation Festival starts. In the competition, there are "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik and, once again, "Acid Rain," which will also be shown at the Riga International Film Festival. 

This month starts also the Georgian TOFUZI International Animated Film Festival with the competition screening of "The Hunt" by Mateusz Jarmulski and the Wiesbaden International Festival of Animation. In the programme of the German event, you can find three Polish animated films: "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska and "Story" by Jola Bańkowska. The last of the aforementioned animated films will also feature at the Norwegian Fredrikstad Animation Festival, the competition at the Canadian Festival du cinéma international en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, and it will end its October screenings in Korea at the Asiana International Short Film Festival. Earlier, the animated film by Bańkowska will be found in the competition section at the latest edition of the BANIALUKA. There, the following films will also have their chances to win the awards: "Tango of Longing" by Marta Szymańska, "Ovule" by Natalia Durszewicz, "The Little Soul" by Barbara Rupik and "Acid Rain."  

Four Polish animated films will also be shown at the Big Cartoon Festival in Russia. The jury will evaluate "You Are Overreacting" by Karina Paciorkowska, "Acid Rain" by Tomek Popakul, "Bless You!" by Paulina Ziółkowska and "The Rain" by Piotr Milczarek.
